In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, baptism is the first covenant we make with God, a promise to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, keep His commandments, and always remember Him. This sacred ordinance is a rebirth, a fresh start on the covenant path.
Interestingly, both baptism and St. Patrick’s Day can be symbolically tied to the rainbow. In the scriptures, the rainbow is a sign of God’s promises, first given to Noah as a token of His covenant. Rainbows often appear after storms, much like the cleansing power of baptism washes away sin and offers a fresh beginning. The Irish legend of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow reminds us that true treasure is found in keeping our covenants with God, leading to eternal blessings.
As we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, let us remember our baptismal covenants. And when we see a rainbow—whether in the sky or in festive decorations—let it remind us of the promises God has made to us and the blessings that come from following Him.
