This week’s Come, Follow Me 2026 reading in Genesis 12–17 and Abraham 1–2 teaches one of the most important covenant stories in all of scripture.
Heavenly Father asked Abraham to leave his home and journey to a new land. Abraham didn’t have all the details. He didn’t know the full plan. But he trusted the Lord enough to go.
During this time, God made sacred promises with Abraham, what we now call the Abrahamic covenant. He promised to bless Abraham, give his family land, and make his posterity as numerous as the stars. Even more powerful, He promised that through Abraham’s family, all the families of the earth would be blessed. That promise includes us today.
We also see Abraham’s character when conflict arises between his herdsmen and Lot’s. Instead of demanding his rights, Abraham chose peace. He allowed Lot to choose the land first, trusting that the Lord would take care of him. His example shows that covenant keeping and peacemaking go hand in hand.
To help children engage with this story in a hands-on way, this post includes a free printable seek and find activity!
The illustration shows Abraham and his family traveling in the wilderness, with hidden items throughout the scene for children to discover. As they search, you can talk about:
• Trusting God even when we don’t know the whole plan
• The promise of descendants “as the stars”
• What it means to be part of Abraham’s covenant family
• Choosing peace like Abraham did with Lot
This activity works well for:
• LDS Primary classes
• Family Home Evening
• Home-centered scripture study
